The Outer Hebrides consist of many islands, the main ones being Lewis, Harris, The Uists and Barra with a few smaller ones thrown in for good measure (Berneray, Benbecula, Eriskay, Vatersay etc.).

The Isle of Lewis is the largest of the Scottish Hebridean islands, and can offer everything from culture to relaxation. For families visiting the Islands, Children are not forgotten as the vast amount of un spoilt sandy beaches make the Islands not just a beautiful place to be but an intriguing playground. The beaches are vast and at many times totally empty. Situated in the gulf stream ensures the water to be generally warmer than other parts of the UK.

It is a 15 minute walk to the newly restored Lews Castle which now houses our newly opened museum and Cafe and its beautiful grounds, which is an excellent place for a must have walk.  What better way to relax after an exhilarating walk than to stop at the Woodlands Café, located within the castle grounds for a spot of lunch or just a relaxing cup of coffee.  Lews Castle grounds also has an 18 hole golf course.

Staying in Salmon House offers you the ideal base to explore the countryside, the many un spoilt beaches, and numerous places of historic interest such as the Callanish Standing Stones, Doune Carloway broch , Arnol blackhouse and returning in the evening to experience the local restaurants and pubs.
